Prequel News:
By Casila
Facts about II and III:
1) 2 will be a love story set when Anakin is 20 and Amidala is 24.

2) 3 will be a very dark, depressing, movie

3) The reason why the stormtrooper army was created shall be told in Episode 2

4) Those who hated the cute little fuzzy-- or in Jar Jar's case-- slimy creatures will be happy to know that in 3 it's more of the heavy emotions. Like the "Luke, I am your father."--so, I'm guessing EP 2 and 3 are geared to more of the older crowds, not so much little kids.

5) A group of Mandalorian supercommandos (i.e., warriors who wear armor that is similar to the way Boba Fett looks) are defeated by the Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars.

6) Location scouting for Episode 2 is finished. They have "pretty much locked" the locations in Australia, Tunisia, and Italy-- also possibly Portugal and Spain.

7) The Budget for EP I was 120 mill, they came in at 115 mill.

The outline of the Darth Vader story.
(how he became DV, it's known by me for a while, maybe 5 years, so it's not really new news, but to some of you it might be)

Through Kenobi's lack of experience as a teacher and his proud refusal to seek help or advice - combined with Anakin's strong will - Kenobi failed to see how Anakin was being lured to the dark side of the Force. When Kenobi finally realized the error of his ways and tried to turn Anakin back to the light side, the only result was a ferocious light saber duel. The records are hazy, but it appears that Anakin may have fallen into a pit of molten lava while fighting Kenobi.

Anakin emerged from the lava half-dead, charred and unable to breath on his own. Palpatine found him and gave him that suite, which kept him alive. Anakin's subsequent transformation into Darth Vader was known only to a select few. Vader teamed up with Emperor Palpatine to help spread the terror of the New Order. Kenobi then helped to hide the twin son and daughter born to Anakin's estranged wife, Amidala of Naboo. The baby girl was entrusted to Bail Organa while the boy was given to Owen and Beru Lars. On Tatooine, Kenobi lived close to the Lars so that he could keep track of Luke Skywalker. For the most part, Kenobi remained hidden while the Empire hunted down and destroyed most of the remaining Jedi Knights

Why doesn't Qui-Gon disappear when he is killed?
"The Qui-Gon thing you will discover as time goes on. There is a whole issue around that and the ability to disappear. The key line which you will use to understand this is when Ben Kenobi tells Darth Vader, "strike me down and I will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine." But thats a key line, and it will be explained as we go along"--Lucas

What do you think of the idea that Episode 1 must beat Titanic?
"I don't know where that came from, because anybody knows the film business knows that the chances of a sequel beating the original are slim to none...It's a movie, I made it because I enjoyed making movies, and I hope it does well. I really don't have any desire to be # 1... thats not what it's about. It's about the process of making the movie."

When did you first find out the Ewan McGregor is Denis Lawsons nephew?
"Well, that was the first thing he said when he came in for his audition--"You've got to give me this part because my uncle was Wedge." I said "okay, that's a good enough reason."--LOL

What do you think of SW fans' on the Internet?
"I like the fans. They've always been central, and now that they're connected by the Internet, I think that says more about the nature of the Internet, and the fact that like minded people can join together despite geographic boundaries and have a community." He likes us! He really, really likes us!

What about the high expectations?
"The fans' expectations had gotten way high and they wanted a film that was going to change their lives and be the Second Coming. I can't do that. It's just a movie."--Lucas

Leo as Anakin?...began when fans found out he visited the Skywalker Ranch:
"I met Leo on the set of Titanic. I knew he was a big fan of SW..." he has collections, like a regular obsessed fan. Just like us! "...He was very anxious to see SW in one of the best surroundings... we wanted to show it to him in the best possible way. Leo is a great actor, but at this time, there was nothing more to his visit than showing him the film."

Criticism towards Jar Jar?
"There is something that we have not only seen in research but in exit polls, and I have seen it at screenings I have been to. People Love Jar Jar! I don't know what is going on. I think there's too much criticism. There have even been racist accusations about him. That is ridiculous. Jar Jar was created with great care and affection and was meant to be a lovable, innocent character. To read more into his creation is ridiculous and absurd. It is a small percentage of people who are savage about it."

Fans upset about Mauls demise, any chance he will be back?
No, but if you liked Darth Maul, wait until Episode II--you will not believe what's in store for you!" People, He was Cut into TWO BIG MAUL PIECES!!!, he's not coming back! :)
But there will be more sidekicks.
Hey, I've even heard that Mace Windu will be turned to the Dark Side, but I don't know about that one. it was a rumor made by a fan that he would, but I seriously doubt that

Other things happening?
Start Casting September, October, and November. We're in active preproduction. We don't have much time, so we are trying as hard as we can because the train has already left and we have to be on it!"

What actors or characters will definitely be returning for EP II?
"We'll definitely see Natalie, Ewan, Frank Oz (guy who operates Yoda) and definitely Ian McDiarmid. We'll definitely see Anakin, since it's about 10--12 years later."--McCallum
"It shaves down, as time goes on, things are eliminated. Ultimately the final story is between Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the Queen. It's really their story. Those four characters."--Lucas

How far into EP II are you?
George is about a quarter a way into the script. He'll have it done by September. Shooting will begin in Australia June of 2000, "I'm just waiting for the final script, we'll start building sets in November and we'll start shooting in June". We'll release it in 2002. Afterward in 2003 we start on EP III for a 2005 release date. If were still alive!

Rick, Were you like Obi-Wan to George's Qui-Gon?
No, I was Darth Maul to Yoda.--LOL

Currently TPM is number 3 in the top grossing films with 419 million. Over sea's, the total is 305 Million...total 724 million so far. With number two being the original SW film, and of course we have the great film Titanic--can you see the sarcasm dripping from the screen? Be sure and check your local theaters, cause soon TPM will be kicked out to make room for other movies. So be sure and get in that last movie before it leaves the great theaters!

For Episode I there's a great deal of collectibles. There are not just action figures but many other things such as stills from the movie and dioramas that you can buy.
They have several different types and sizes of the action figures. There is even candy for The Phantom Menace, pez dispensers are one such item.
Many people have gone to Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC to get the toys and posters the food chains give away, some people even collect the cups and boxes. Die Hard fans keep anything that even has the slightest mention of Star Wars on it.
There' are also the games which are coming out on Playstation very soon. The Phantom Menace game is due out in November for Playstation. Podracing for Playstation will be out much later it will be out by June of 2000. A role playing book with the stats for characters is due out some time in the near future. No date has been set, and even a month hasn't even been released. The book will have session ideas for a plot of a role play. In Inquest they gave us a quick glimpse of characters in the role play. They will have stats for Obi-Wan, Anakin, Amidala, Battle Droids, and Darth Maul. Other characters may be included but that's all they are saying at this time. That means no Jar Jar, so that's a good thing unless you like him. Information was gotten from www.starwars.hasbro.com and Inquest magazine.

Book Reviews:
For this weeks book review;
Children of the Jedi

Okay, I guess only No1SprGuy and I read this book. So you all who didn't, don't waste your time. This was the one I didn't even understand, and didn't really get the whole idea till about the end of the book. It was all very confusing for me, and when I did get it, I didn't get some other things! So if you see it for maybe under 5 dollars, then get it, but don't waster 22 dollars on this book like I did.

No1SprGuy:
on the book review, i pretty much hated this one as much as courtship and bakura. once again something stupid had arisen and well, got boring from there. And to top it off, even though calista(not to be mistaken for our NL person here) came to life but is not with the force. bleh. go read the new xwing book for some real reading.

The Actors Character:

Did you know that a lot of people get characters and actors confused? Well, if you didn't know that now you do.
They know that one plays the part and the other is the part. What they don't realize is that if the actor does something they dislike it's not their fault.
The character that people get confused or mistaken like this is Obi-Wan. If they like him, they seem to think Ewan is the best. Their like for him (at least from girls) is that they think he's cute; therefore, liking Ewan can go along with that. I do not think you should base liking a character in a movie by looks.
If they hate him (which many people I have talked to do) they hate Ewan. The reason people hate Obi-Wan is because they think he has no emotions (I agree, most people who prefer Sith don't like Obi-Wan). In going along with disliking Obi-Wan, they also don't like Ewan. When asked "why?" they have no answer; just "I don't like him."
That is where the confusion is brought into play. I believe that this confusion is due to the like or dislike of the movie. George has created a separate universe as we all know, and in the process of enjoying this world, some people get totally absorbed in it.
